Equalizer 3

THE EQUALIZER 3: WAS IT GOOD?    HERE'S MY FULL REVIEW:

This weekend, I went to the movies with my bestie to watch the third installment of the Equalizer franchise. Mind you, I haven't seen part one and two, so I'll just give my opinions on this one with a fresh mind. Meaning, I'll give you my opinions going in blind. If you haven't seen it yet, then you'll have to go watch before coming to this post because I'm going to give a few SPOILERS!!

First off, What I Liked About the Movie (Positives)

The violence

As a fan of R-rated movies that don't hold back on the bloody and gritty, I really loved how they went hard with this one. It wasn't over-the-top like last year's Rambo: Last Blood, it was mild and fit in with the movie very well. Like I said, I didn't see the first two Equalizers, so I don't know if the level of violence was the same as this one.

Denzel Being Denzel

Growing up, I wasn't that much of a Denzel fan because I was slowly getting to know him as an actor. In my teens, I watched a couple more of Denzel's movies and, my God, this man sold me! He's one of the best actors ever! I loved him in Training Day, American Gangster, and Unstoppable. I won't forget Inside Man too. He's very charismatic, as compared to Will Smith, and in this movie, he sold me in again. Even as a sixty-something year old, killing machine, he's still as charismatic as he was in his prime.

What I found MEH:

The plot: Well, I really enjoyed the movie, but being honest, I think the plot could have been much better. Maybe it's because I haven't seen the first two films, so I don't know anything, but from what I watched, that's how I felt coming out of the theater. I loved the characters; the old man helping Denzel's character, I cared about him. I like the stakes they set up with the police officer and his wife and daughter. The CIA officer (played by Dakota Fanning) who received anonymous tips from Denzel's characters about the Camorra, I didn't really care about her that much in the film. But I felt like the story was just like every other action crime I've watched. It was average. It could be because I'm not much of a fan of action crime which involves the Maffia, or Cartel or drug lords.

All in all, I thought it was just OK. I enjoyed Denzel's performance in the movie and the gritty violence. I also wished there was a bit more of that in the movie. Maybe if I'd watched the first two films, I would have enjoyed this one better. What do you think of this movie? Have you seen it? Will you go see it? You could post your comment if you liked my not-so perfect review.
